In a letter he wrote to
the Nigerian State Security Service demanding for the immediate release of
Shiite leader, Ibrahim El-Zakzaky, human rights lawyer, Femi Falana revealed
that the Muslim cleric lost his left eye during the Shiite clash with the
Nigerian Army in December last year. Falana in the letter, said the doctors are
currently battling to save his right eye.
The
letter in part reads: “As a result of the
brutal attack, Sheikh Zakzaky lost his left eye while doctors are currently
battling to save the right one. To compound the physical pain and mental
anguish that our clients were subjected to in the circumstance, the Nigeria
Police Force and State Security Service have held them incommunicado for the
past three and half months".
El-Zazakky, his wife and some of his members have been in
detention since December 2015 after a clash with the Nigerian Army in Zaria,
Kaduna state.
