A crocodile has attacked a camper in northern
Australia, pulling him out of his tent by his foot as he slept early Monday, an
official said.
The 19-year-old man "will remain in the
hospital tonight and we hope to talk to him soon. He is in stable condition,"
a health department spokeswoman said.
Saltwater crocodiles are common around river systems
and water holes in the Northern Territory of Australia, despite hundreds being
removed, mostly near towns, by officials in recent years.
The victim had set up camp 15 metres from a river
during a fishing trip with his family in the Daly region, news reports said.
After his right foot was grabbed, he somehow managed
to kick the reptile away with his other foot," an official said.
He added that was the third attack this year in the
region.
