A 38 year old female petty trader, Mrs. Lovina Odo,
committed suicide by hanging herself with a rope tied to a ceiling fan at her
home in Umusiome village, Nkpor-agu near Onitsha in Anambra State on Tuesday
around 5:00p.m.
According to preliminary investigations by the police, the deceased could have committed suicide due to the fact that she had been childless in her eight years of marriage.
Narrating what happened, husband to the deceased, Okechukwu Odo, a car washer, said he and Lovina had been married for over eight years and had no child.
According to Odo he returned home from work at about 6:30p.m. on the day of the incident and found out that his had hung herself inside their one room apartment. Odo said himself and his wife had no quarell before he left for work on the day of the incident
“I left home for work
that morning after taking my breakfast. She had asked that I buy a tuber of yam
for dinner while coming home. When I returned, I saw people gathered around my
apartment only to be told that my wife had committed suicide,” he said
Confirming the incident, the Divisional Police
Officer of Ogidi community, CSP Hassan Musa, said the deceased did not leave a
suicide note before the committed the act.
“No suicide note was
seen around her but preliminary investigation reveals that she might have
committed suicide because she had no child,”he said.
Musa added that the corpse of the
deceased has been removed and deposited at the Mortuary of Iyienu Mission Hospital.
