A 55-year-old commercial driver, Mustapha Mohammed, who
allegedly stole N140, 000 belonging to one Hassan Lawal, was on Friday admitted
to bail in the sum of N100,000 by an Igbosere Magistrates' Court in Lagos.
The Magistrate, Mr W. B. Balogun, also ordered that Mustapha
should provide two sureties in like sum, as part of the bail conditions.
He added that the sureties must show evidence of two years
tax payment to the Lagos State Government.
Balogun adjourned the case to May 16, for mention.
The accused, who resides at No. 2, Idowu Tailor St.,
Victoria Island, Lagos is facing a charge of stealing.
Earlier the Prosecutor, Insp. Igonbo Emby, had told the
court that the accused committed the alleged offence in 2015, at his residence
in the Eti-Osa area of Lagos State.
He said that the complaint asked the accused to help him
keep the N140, 000.
"The accused converted the money, which was kept in his
custody for safe keeping, to his own use and refused to refund it to the
complaint," he said.
Emby said the offence contravened Section 285 of the
Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
