Lagos Govt. Seizes Doctors’ August Salary For Participating In NMA Strike

The Lagos State Government has not paid all doctors working in government owned hospitals their August salaries for participating in the recently concluded Nigerian Medical Association, NMA, strike, which took place throughout the Federation.

It will be recalled that the doctors went on a nationwide strike, after the federal Government failed to meet their demands. The strike was on for two months, but was called off when Ebola hit some parts of the country. Before however calling off the strike, the doctors warned that no participant will be dealt with by the government, which was one of the factors emphasised on while calling off the strike.

Some of their demands back then included: the government improving residency programme in Nigeria, increasing doctors’ hazard allowances from N5,000 to N100,000 and also improving facilities in hospitals all over the country, which are yet to be met. We hope they get paid to avert another strike.
