Former Ekiti State Governor, Chief Segun Oni, and a Peoples Democratic Party governorship aspirant in Ekiti State, Dayo Adeyeye, have described the matriarch of the Awolowo family and the Yeye Oodua of Yorubaland, Chief Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, as the conscience and mother of the Yoruba nation.
Oni, in his congratulatory message to
HID on her 98th birthday on Monday, said, “Mama’s untiring efforts at
building and sustaining the unity of the Yoruba nation and ensuring its
worthy pride of place within the context of Nigeria’s federal structure
is commendable.
“We are particularly happy that in spite
of all challenges, mama has remained undaunted in her commitment to the
unity and wellness of the Yoruba race.
“In critical moments, mama has never
shied away from giving useful advice on the way forward for the country,
not minding her age.”
He prayed for many more active years for her and congratulated the Awolowo family on the occasion of her 98th birthday.
In his goodwill message, Adeyeye said,
“Chief Obafemi Awolowo will be happy that he left behind a worthy
matriarch, who has remained a jewel of inestimable value to the entire
Yoruba race and Nigeria in general.
“On behalf of myself, my family, the
entire PDP members and supporters in Ekiti State, I wish our mother a
most glorious 98th birthday anniversary.
“The attainment of this age by mama is
no doubt a confirmation of the grace the almighty God has bestowed on
her and it is my prayer that God will grant mama many more years in good
health.
“She is a pride to us, the disciples of
Baba Awolowo and the entire Yoruba race. I have no doubt in my mind that
mama is more than a jewel to many of us and we shall continue to hold
her in very high esteem.
