There were five occupants in the car, thought to be three bodyguards, the rapper and a driver, and all occupants were arrested.
All five men were arrested on felony charges of possession of marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm.
It is believed the rapper is being held without bond and his first court appearance was set for this  afternoon.
According to TMZ police found a 'substantial amount' of marijuana and money inside the car totalling $70,000.
t is thought that police originally pulled the vehicle over for a routine traffic stop before discovering the drug.
Under Georgia state law possessing less than an ounce of the drug in most instances is a misdemeanour, although in some cases it can be a felony.
However even charges of a misdemeanour can mean a 12 month jail term and a $1,000 fine.
Possessing more than an ounce of marijauana can mean a jail term of up to ten year and trafficking the drug can result in a five to 30 year jail term in some cases.
This is not the rapper's first brush with the law and on October 7, 2009, Way was arrested on one count of obstruction for running from police when he'd been ordered to stop. He rapper was released on $550 bond.
The artist found fame in 2007 when his single Crank That reached number one and he has been working on his fourth studio album entitles Respect My Hustle set for release later this year or early 2012.
