Celebrated Senegalese singer Youssou Ndour has challenged African artistes to ‘take the initiative’ to come together for the support of families affected by the famine in the Horn of Africa especially Somalia.
Ndour on Tuesday, September 6, 2011 said he ‘hoped to help African artists raise funds through their performances’. He also disclosed that Bono, the main vocalist of the Dublin-based rock band U2 has joined the cause.
Youssou Ndour on Tuesday visited the Dadaab Refugee camp in northern Kenya where he met with more than 400,000 Somalia refugees who have fled from the country battled with famine and civil war for the last 20 years.
According to reports by the United Nations, over 12 million people in the Horn of Africa, including parts of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya and Uganda, are affected by the drought and are in need of urgent humanitarian assistance.www.mannastores.com
