Royal wedding dress embroidery team reveal the secrets of Kate Middleton's McQueen gown - and the fact they had no idea of the designer's identity

The embroiderers

It was so secret not even the top team of embroiderers knew the identity of the dress designer.
The two dozen seamstresses weren’t told they were working on a Sarah Burton creation until just before the ceremony.
Kate was determined that every detail of the dress remained under wraps until it was unveiled at Westminster Abbey.
As they worked in 30-minute shifts they were as much in the dark as the rest of the world about how the finished item would look.
They knew they were working on the bridal gown for Kate Middleton as they stitched daffodils, shamrocks, roses and thistles on to the ivory silk.

It is believed Sarah fitted the dress by making late-night visits and secretly moved into The Goring hotel to add the finishing touches in private.
New York fashion expert Plum Sykes said her dress – similar to Kate’s – took six months for Sarah to make. She said: “She is very patient and easy-going.”
Experts say similar dresses cost in the region of £100,000.
