MP John Hemming has named Ryan Giggs as footballer at centre of injunction row on twitter over having an affair with Imogen Thomas.
Imogen Thomas
The Spanish media have today named Ryan Giggs as the mystery footballer who has been trying to protect his identity via a controversial super injunction following claims that he had an affair with former Big Brother contestant Imogen Thomas.Speculation has been rumbling on for weeks as to who the 'squeaky clean family man' was and although the player's identity was brought to our attention some time ago, we were unable to comment and still can't, but we can respond to your questions and confirm that the Spanish media have today named Giggs as the player at the centre of the drama.
Sport.es is one source that has named Giggs, as a result they have immediately come under fire with suggestions that they have done this to disrupt Manchester United's preparations for their Champions League final against Barcelona.
The British media have been claiming that Imogen Thomas had fallen in love with one of the country's most famous footballers and that she believed the mystery footballer would settle down with her following various pledges he is supposed to have made. That never happened and once the relationship ended, she was threatened that if she ever made the player's identity known that she would face the consequences.
Speaking recently, she said: "I had no intention of speaking about the man - I just wish my name was protected.
"I didn't have £50,000 to get an injunction.
"I feel like I have been thrown to the lions and told to deal with it."
She added: "It was about 7 or 8pm that I heard about the injunction and that it was going to court.
"I had a phone call from the other party's lawyers and I was totally baffled because there was no way on earth I wanted this to come out ever.
"I honestly didn't understand anything about it.
"I got sent an email and I had to read it through. I just burst into tears it was so quick and I was so shocked about what was happening.
"One thing it said was if I ever, ever spoke I would be sent to jail."
The British media are unable to name the footballer.
