A family source as well as a source close to Justice Katsina-Alu confirmed that the woman died instantly after a tree fell on her and the CJN in the Chief Justice’s hometown in Alu, Ushongo local government area of Benue state.
The couple sat under a Mango tree last night when a slight wind began in the area, the family source said. Mimi stood up and started running inside the main house when a heavy tree branch hit her on the head, another branch hit the CJN on the back causing him to fall down. That fall by the Chief Justice saved his life as a bigger branch fell and shattered his empty chair.
The CJN reportedly sustained minor injuries around his waist. He remains in the village awaiting medical care from doctors coming down from Abuja.
Mimi Katsina-Alu was the third wife of the CJN whose earlier marriages ended in divorce. She was 49 years old. Her burial is scheduled for Saturday May, 14 2011. www.mannamart.com
