The Indigenous People of Biafra leader, Nnamdi Kanu, has claimed that he was offered five Igbo states as Biafra by the Federal Government while in prison but he refused. Kanu who made this claim on Wednesday said that he refused because the Biafra he is agitating for constitutes more than South-East states.
He said he wants a Biafra with Rivers State, Benue State and others who are part of the defunct Biafra Republic and willing to be part of Biafra. Beyond offering him five eastern states as Biafra, Kanu also alleged that the Nigerian Government offered him an oil block and mansion in Dubai so that he can abandon the cause but that he rejected all of that.
Kanu made this disclosure when he spoke with leaders of Igbo Civil Society Coalition led by Professor Obasi Igwe in a solidarity visit at his Umuahia home. The IPOB leader described the alleged offers as Greek gifts meant to compromise him, adding that he needs nothing rather than the restoration of Biafra Republic and the liberation of the Igbos.
“They gave me Biafra in Prison with only the five Igbo states; I said no, I want Benue and Rivers. “Biafra is coming, there is nothing to stop it,” he said. Kanu regretted that the Igbo elites have been anti-Biafra and that they were only being selfish and lacked the interest of the Igbo masses. Igbo leaders have continuously denied Kanu’s demand of Biafra insisting on a united but restructured Nigeria.
However, the Biafra demand appears to be enjoying support of several Igbo youths.
