Woman who cut off her stepson's genitals has been remanded in Prison

Mannastore blog reported about this gruesome incident that happened some days ago in Minna, Niger State. A woman named Bara'atu (pictured) who is the step mother of the baby boy, allegedly cut off his penis. She was arrested and placed in custody pending her arraignment in court. The boy survived the incident and was rushed to a hospital in Minna where doctors urgently operated on him in order to provide a way for him to urinate.

The real cause of what drove her to take such a drastic action has now been revealed. According to the Niger State Police Public Relations Officer, Bala James, the suspect wanted to kill the victim - named Buhari out of 'jealousy'. She had been married to her husband for seven years without any child and out of pressure, the man decided to marry a second wife. When the second wife had a baby, she became frustrated and planned to kill him out of anger. On June 21, around 10pm, she took the baby to the backyard of their house and used a sharp knife to cut off his penis. The cry of the baby attracted neighbours, who rushed to the place and found him in a pool of blood. She made an attempt to abscond but was overpowered by people around and handed over to the police, while the baby was taken to the IBB Specialist Hospital in Minna.

Although she was arraigned yesterday on a one count of attempted homicide before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Minna and remanded in prison, the boy might sadly never regain the use of his private parts as all the tissues in the affected part had been dead before he was brought to the hospital.
