Two Nigerian veteran actors Olu Jacobs and Idowu Philips, aka Iya Rainbow, have both reached the grand age of 70.
Jacobs, who turned 70 on July 11, 2012, is a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State. He left Nigeria for England in the 60′s to attend the prestigious Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts, England. After graduating, he worked in various theatres in Britain.
He returned to Nigeria in the early 80′s and starred in the TV series ‘Third Eye‘. His first ever movie, produced by AA productions, was ‘Vigilante’. A member of the National Theatre of Great Britain, he has featured in over 130 movies.
Jacobs is married to the long-serving Nollywood actress Joke Silva.
Idowu Philips, who plans to throw a big celebration in October, has, for over five decades, remained prominent in the Yoruba movie industry. The name ‘Iya Rainbow’ was derived from the name of her late husband’s theatre group ‘Osumare’ (Yoruba for rainbow). She has featured in over 50 movies.
The actress, who lost her husband in 1984, has a son, Femi Philips, who has also ventured into the movie world, but as a director.
