The season premiere of crime drama "Law & Order: SVU" will feature a fictional tale of an Italian dignitary accused of rape -- ripping the Dominique Strauss-Kahn drama straight from the headlines, the New York Post reported Friday.
NBC has cast Franco Nero, 69, who played the chief bad guy Gen. Esperanza in "Die Hard 2," as the Strauss-Kahn knockoff, according to TV Guide.
The "Law & Order" franchise is known for producing episodes inspired by real-life high-profile crimes.
Earlier this year "Law & Order: LA" screened an episode based on the shooting of Arizona Rep. Gabrielle Giffords.
The premiere of the New York-set show will be seen on Sept. 21.
Meanwhile, the real Strauss-Kahn -- a French lawmaker who quit as head of the IMF amid accusations he sexually assaulted a New York hotel maid -- is due back in court Aug. 23. He has pleaded not guilty to all criminal charges.
His accuser, Nafissatou Diallo, has also filed a civil lawsuit claiming compensation in a New York court.
