Nigeria international left back Taye Taiwo has been charged with tax evasion by a court in Marseille, France, where he played from 2005—2011.
Taiwo is said to owe the French government €1,025,000 after failing to pay his income tax in 2008 and 2009, and his property tax in 2011.
The court, which judge Taiwo in absentia without any of his representatives, ruled that Taiwo’s €600,000 mansion in Marseille will be seized and auctioned for just €200,000.
Taiwo has also been given the opportunity to apply through his lawyer for installment or delayed payment.
The former AC Milan defender is presently in Turkey where he started preseason training with his new club Bursaspor.
