The remains of Ene Gertrude Adole, a member of the National Youth Service Corp, NYSC, who passed away on Monday, September 26th, was buried in her hometown in Benue State. May her soul rest in peace. See the photos after the cut.

"We live in the bush so you can sleep at home" poignant last words of Nigerian soldier killed on the frontline

According to Abubakar Auta, the Nigerian Army has confirmed the death of his cousin, a soldier who had been missing for a year. He reportedly died on the frontline at Gudunbale area of Borno State. Another family member confirmed the sad news on Facebook. May his soul rest in peace, Amen. Abdul Usman shared photos of the slain soldier and wrote:

According to Cool FM oap Freeze, this happened this morning at 1004 apartments, Victoria Island, Lagos. Narrating what happened, he said the driver crashed a black Mercedes-Benz M-Class SUV into four cars that were parked.

N600m fraud: Court grants ex Naval chief, Usman Jibrin, N100m bail

Justice A. S. Umar of the FCT High Court sitting in Maitama has granted bail to a former Chief of Naval Staff, Usman Jibrin, and two others who are currently standing trial for an offence bordering on criminal conspiracy brought against them by the EFCC. Others are retired rear admirals, Bala Mshelia, Sheu Ahmadu and a company, Harbour Bay International Limited.

Nigeria's Nneka Ogwumike named the Women NBA’s Most Valuable Player 2016

Los Angeles Sparks forward Nneka Ogwumike also known as Nnemkadi Ogwumike has been awarded the Women's NBA Most Valuable player of the year award for her fine displays in the USA women's basketball league this season.

Ogwumike, 26 ranks third in the WNBA in scoring (19.7) and rebounding (9.1) while leading the league with 66.5% shooting, the second-best percentage in WNBA history.

Borno state commissioner for Environment dies

The Commissioner for Environment in Borno state, Waziri Imam, has died. He died this morning following a brief illness at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. He will be buried today according to Islamic laws. He reportedly drove himself to the hospital when he suddenly fell ill. May his soul rest in peace Amen.

Tennis great Serena Williams, 35, took to her Facebook to write on the growing Police/ Black people violence in the United States, saying she won't be silent on the issue.. Lagos Assembly summons contractor of poorly constructed road In Itokin-Ikorodu

The Lagos State House of Assembly has reportedly summoned DHV Nigeria Limited, the construction company that handled the Federal Low Cost Bye Pass Itokun road in Ikorodu North Local Council Development Area, Lagos. There was a report yesterday that the road, commissioned just last week, has already started deteriorating. (Read here).

The newly constructed road is part of 114 roads constructed across the 20 local governments and 37 local council development areas in the State.

Hundreds of unemployed Nigerian youths today fell for a fake recruitment advert sent out via Whatsapp. A fake message was drafted and sent out by a prankster, claiming that people who have a B.sc and are interested in a 80k salary paying job at a call center in Guaranty Trust Bank plc, should come for an interview by 9am in VI, Lagos. People thought it was true and hundreds of youths, even from outside Lagos, came formally dressed but were shocked to find out it was a hoax. Mauritius goalkeeper Leopold arrested after police find 22 doses of heroin in his house

Mauritius international goalkeeper, Joseph Kinsley Steward Leopold who was part of the country's team at the last Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign has been arrested by the Mauritius' Anti-drug Smuggling Police Unit after they found 22 doses of heroin,  razor blades, scales and materials used to package drugs in his Port Louis home.

Top Nigerian drug lord arrested in Kenya

Police in Nairobi, Kenya have arrested a suspected Nigerian drug lord, Emmanuel Peter Inobemhe. According to Kenyan media, Inobemhe who was deported from Kenya in 2013 on Presidential orders, was arrested by police officers in Kayole Estate, Nairobi yesterday Wednesday Sept. 28th.

The Police boss at Kayole police command, Ali Nuno, said Inobemhe had been deported twice from Kenya over drug issues and wondered how he came back to the country.

Photos: Six people reportedly found dead in a 'brothel' in Umuahia, Abia State

Six people were reportedly found dead and two others unconscious earlier today at 50-50 Hotel, located around Uyo street in Umuahia, Abia State. According to Abia Facts Newspaper: 

"The hotel is a brothel and the girls living there have had experience of mysterious slaps some weeks back that left one person unconscious. This incident of strange slaps made all the occupant of the brothel to leave, only for the owner to recruit news ladies from other cities.  Unfortunately, 3 ladies and their customers are today not alive to tell the story of what happened or what befallen them over night that left them dead. 

Photos: Suspected Fulani Herdsmen attack & kidnap Catholic priests in Enugu

Same Catholic priests were recently attacked by Fulani Herdsmen in Enugu State. According to reports, the priests, Rev Fr Chetanna Jude Chukwuneke, Fr Emmanuel Dim and Fr Prof Ezeokana were in a car when the incident occurred. Chukwuenke was driving his car along Obimo in Uzo-Uwani when the suspected herdsmen emerged from a bush in a bad spot of the road and shot him in the head but thankfully he didn't die. They also injured the passengers, kidnapping one in the process.

Student auctions her virginity online so that she can study abroad with bids starting at £130,500

A 20 year old Russian student simply known as Ariana has revealed she has decided to auction her virginity online with bids starting at  £130,500 so she can be able to pursue her medical studies abroad.
According to Ariana, she'll rather lose her virginity to gain the best of education than lose it to someone who will later break her heart.
Ariana says her parents don't know how she intends to get the money but that at the age of 20 she doesn't feel any need to hold on the virginity any longer with her education hanging in the balance.

Swiss Parliament votes to ban Muslim women from wearing the Burka in public

The parliament in Switzerland has voted to ban the Muslim Burka from being worn in public.The National Council on Tuesday voted 88 votes in favour of the ban while 87 voted against with 10 abstentions.
Members voted in favour of a ruling that “no person shall cover his face in public places and in places or hide in the public domain or the provision of public services (excluding sacred sites).”
According to Swiss media reports. For the vote to be passed into law and made effective, the ruling will have to undergo further scrutiny and more voting in the Parliament.

Update: Fulani Herdsmen who kidnapped Catholic Priest in Enugu demand for N2.5 million ransom

Some Catholic priests were attacked by Fulani Herdsmen in Enugu State on Sept 26th. According to reports, the priests Rev Fr Chetanna Jude Chukwuneke, Fr Emmanuel Dim and Fr Prof Ezeokana were in a car passing along Obimo in Uzo-Uwani when the suspected herdsmen emerged from a bush in a bad spot of the road, and attacked. While Fr Chukwuenke and Fr Prof Ezeokana escaped, Fr Emmaniuel Dim was abducted. A 2.5 million Naira ransom has now been demanded before he is released.

12-year-old Nigerian boy's harrowing account of being kidnapped from his mother and smuggled to Europe on migrant boat

12-year-old Nigerian boy named (Maka for his protection) who was rescued off the coast of Libya this month told rescuers a harrowing story of being kidnapped and taken away from his mother, thrown onto trucks, locked in homes and eventually put on a a migrant boat.
