EFCC raids Justice Ofili-Ajumogobia’s home
Barely
72 hours after turning herself in to Economic and Financial Crimes Commission
(EFCC), Rita Ofili-Ajimogobia residence got raided by operatives of the EFCC
during which ‘vital’ documents belonging to Ofili that may point to criminal
breaches were allegedly retrieved.
According to Vanguard Sunday, a top operative said that bank accounts of the woman and those of her children were also taken away by the security operatives during the raid.
“A search was conducted on the residence of
Justice Rita Ofili- Ajumogobia by operatives of the EFCC and the search yielded
documents that would assist the commission’s investigations, including bank
accounts in her name and those bearing the names of her children and property
title both in Nigeria and abroad”.
The female judge had been having a running battle with the
EFCC, including the claim she took shelter in a Lagos hospital, before turning
in herself last Thursday. She had been accused by a litigant of corruption
before the National Judicial Council, NJC, moved against her early this year
but was not removed from her post.
Meanwhile, the EFCC has taken up the case to make her face prosecution for graft-related matters. It was not clear last night if the agency would charge her to court and when that would be.
