Actor Harrison Ford, pictured piloting the plane inset and bottom right, and in a stretcher at the scene top left, has been confirmed as pilot of small plane that crashed in Venice, California, on Thursday afternoon. The 72-year-old actor's vintage plane crashed into Penmar golf course just at 2:24pm. Authorities told multiple news outlets that the actor has been transported in critical condition to UCLA trauma center, but his condition was later downgraded to stable. It is understood he sustained head wounds and was bleeding profusely but is recovering. His son Ben Ford, a chef, tweeted: 'At the hospital. Dad is ok. Battered, but ok! He is every bit the man you would think he is. He is an incredibly strong man.' It is understood that engine failure was to blame for the accident.
