Omawumi Allegedly Beat-up A Photo-Journalist At A Lagos Event


The Warri-born singer-cum-actress has been alleged of attacking a photo-journalist at an event held in Lagos recently.

While carrying out his lawful duty, the photo-journalist, Adekola Bamigbala attempted to take pictures of Omawumi, but little did he know that danger was lurking around for him, as the singer allegedly pounced on him, snatched his big camera and with it, dealt him heavy strikes in the face in quick succession, which gave Bamigbala a swollen face. It was big and strange flashes, not from his camera, but from alleged assaults from Omawumi that the journalist could see.

Pope Francis: Who Am I To Judge Gay People



The Pope's position on gay people appears to contrast with that of his predecessors.

Pope Francis has said gay people should not be judged or marginalised.
Speaking to reporters on a flight back from Brazil, he said: "If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge him?"
The Pope's remarks are being seen as much more conciliatory than his predecessor's position on the issue.

KANO (AFP) – A series of loud explosions rocked Nigeria’s second city of Kano on Monday, residents said, describing at least four blasts in the Sabon Gari neighbourhood, which has been previously targetted by Boko Haram Islamists.
“There is confusion all over the place. There were four huge explosions, so huge that they shook the whole area. Everywhere is enveloped in smoke and dust,” said Chinyere Madu, a fruit vendor. Resident Kola Oyebanji said “all his windows are shattered,” after the four successive blasts.

Bananas Thrown At Black Italian Minister During Speech


Italy’s first black minister has condemned a spectator who threw bananas towards her while she was making a speech at a party rally.
Integration minister Cecile Kyenge, who was born in Democratic Republic of Congo, has angered far-right groups with her campaign to make it easier for immigrants to gain Italian citizenship.

APC Vows To Shut-down Abuja If They Are Not Registered


The All Progressives Congress (APC) has vowed to close down Abuja, the federal capital city, if by July 31, 2013 the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fails to recognise it as a registered political party.

The APC is a merger of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), All Nigeria People’s Party (ANPP), Congress for Progress Change (CPC), sections of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) and the Democratic People’s Party (DPP).

Okagbare Breaks African 100m Record Twice In Two Hours



Nigeria’s Blessing Okagbare who broke the African Women’s 100metres record less than two hours ago with a time of 10:86seconds has beaten that record in the final of the ongoing Sainsbury’s Anniversary games in London with a time of 10:79seconds.

Okagbare’s seems to have perfected her style of starting slower but catching up with the others towards the 60 metre mark using the her 1.80m height to the best of her ability.

The Nigerian Sprinter couldn’t contain her joy when she confirmed her victory. In an interview granted after, she gave thanks to God Almighty and said she was glad that her timing was getting better.

Okagbare beat Shelly-Ann Fraser Pryce, who had the best qualifying time to fourth place behind second placed Babara Pierce of the USA and their placed Kelly Ann Baptiste of Trinidad and Tobabgo.

Other runners were Murielle Ahoure of Cote D’ivore, Kerron Stewart of Jamaica, English Gardner and Carmelita Jeter, both of the USA.
